David Axelrod (Daxe) Bass, guitar, and percussion

Daxe at Beltane 2000

David Axelrod (known as "Daxe" to his friends, and "Daax" to some in the Pagan community) is a very prolific composer and musician. One of the founding members of Music for the Goddess, he also partook of those magical drum circles at the Portal of the Porcupine in Piscataway, New Jersey.

An economist by day (yes, he DOES have a Ph.D!), he is the voice of reason among us creative hotheads, able to smooth ruffled feathers with a word, and unblock creative dams with a chord.

Daxe likes dancing 'round the fire, developing econometric models of spiritual insights, going way out during odd-timed improvisations, curried basil tempeh and kale.

He dislikes miscommunication, meat-ony catering, really cold weather, and closed minds (especially if it's his!)

His favorite bands and musicians are the Doors, Steve Naive (Elvis Costello), Yes, Bach, and Stanley Clarke.

The most influential musical person in Daxe's life has been Harry Leahy, by piquing Daxe's theoretical interests, he studied long enough to learn how to play. As far as his life as whole, she would be Sylvia Axlerod (David's mother) both in terms of intellectual insights and overcoming adversity.

When asked what he wanted total strangers to know about him, Daxe responded, "I prefer peace to conflict, I am a quasi-vegetarian, and sharing a little with others is often more enjoyable then hoarding much by oneself. Of course this nothing like powerful music with a 1000 watts at 20hz to get you moving."

Besides Music for the Goddess, Daxe currently performs with the Shapes and Crippled Dick. He is also recording with Dennis Young in Water Torture Chamber Music.

Past projects have been numerous, and he has these recordings available for sale:

Beyond A Reasonable Fantasy - Daxe's solo album
And with Mishambra (a duo consisting of Daxe and Jan Gottleib):
God Doesn't Play With Dice
Soft As A Baby's Brain
One Vote Zygote

Daxe has his own web site, where you can read his thoughtful theorems, and get copies of his other CDs.
